Gateway to projects

Protecting endangered butterflies, moths and their habitats are only possible if the information on their distribution, ecology, and the trend is available and made accessible to nature conservation and decision making organisations.

Distribution data are now available in several countries. At a European scale, distribution maps are available in The Distribution Atlas of European Butterflies. In future BCE aims to collect data online in close collaboration with its national member organisations via its new webpage eBMS. This is one of the major initial objectives of BC Europe. Information on the Red Data Book of European Butterflies and Prime Butterfly Areas of Europe are downloadable from the data section of this site. Under the umbrella of BC Europe, a European wide monitoring network has also been established and we are encouraging regular monitoring specifically in all Prime Butterfly Areas.
